Textured Tile. Great Results for Fused Glass.

I recently added a textured fusing tile to my growing collection of fused glass molds. I got the Wave Texture Fusing Tile from Slumpy’s which is about 11 inches square. I love textures in general. In the case of glass, it is a great way to add interest to an otherwise simple piece.

For my test run I used two 11″ x 5.5″ pieces of 3mm clear glass. I full fused these directly on the tile creating a flat textured piece. I purposely did not do a separate full fuse as I was hoping to get some nice bubbles. I did! The full fused piece went back in the kiln supported by kiln shelf pieces on the ends to create a raised edge.

While I really like the result, it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. My original thought was that this would be a serving tray. Unfortunately, I think it is a tad too small for that. I wish the texture tile came in a larger size – 18 inches would be nice. Happily, however, I found it was the perfect size for holding personal paper guest towels.
