To Blog, or Not to Blog…

That is the question! I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a while now. It wasn’t something I had ever anticipated doing. But those close to me know that I often end up doing things I never anticipated. In the case of starting this blog, it was one of those things where one thing led to another, which led to another, and before you know it, I’m sitting here typing my first blog post. I am sure my high school English teachers would be in total shock!

My path to blogging started in June of 2008, It was then that  I opened my first online shop at Etsy.  Up until that point, I had been selling my stained glass pieces primarily by word of mouth and at an occasional craft show. But while surfing around the net one day I stumbled upon Etsy. Etsy (rhymes with Betsy) is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade. It was really a “what the heck” moment. I had inventory and thought it might be a way to get a few online sales. After I got set up on Etsy, I heard about a new online market just starting out called 1000Markets. It is a juried market, and has a different philosophy. I opened my 1000Markets shop in December of 2008. One of the things 1000Markets offered was a place to blog on your shop page. A way for buyers to get to know the artist. I had never blogged before, but with the encouragement of a fellow merchant on the site, (thank you Sue – NineDragons) I decided to give it a try. So far, I’ve only written a handful of posts there, and I will probably republish them here at some point.

So now I am setting up my own blog here on my website. I haven’t got it all figured out yet, but I’m going to give this a try. I’ll be blogging about glass, of course, but maybe some other things as well. With me you just never know. If you have any specific questions about glass or blog suggestions, I would be happy to hear about them.

Ta Da!!! You did it 😀 Thank you for adding me to your blog roll, I’ve returned the favor. I love the way you’ve set this blog up, it looks like you’ve been doing this forever. I can’t wait to hear about your techniques, stained glass is really one of my favorite things to look at. I love your slide show too…my favorite is the one with the ‘bubbles’ in the corner. Congrats on taking the plunge!

Wow. I didn’t know this side of you. I too dislike writing and tend to put all my thoughts bullit style. I’m also too private to share my life. I applaud your new adventure.
