New Stained Glass Panel – Midnight Tumbleweed

Stained Glass Beveled Panel

I just finished this stained glass panel. I drew this pattern over a year ago, and somehow it just seemed like there was something missing. When I recently came across some dichroic bevels, I knew instantly that they belonged in this design. I had a small piece of dark blue glass that reminded me of the midnight sky and was perfect for a border. The background glass is a heavy baroque design that looks like it is the wind blowing the bevels around. I love geometric designs, but I decided to break up the border to give it some interest and a more modern look. I made this piece using the copper foil method and used a patina on the solder that gives it a dark almost gun metal finish. To finish it off and make it a truly custom piece, I also made a custom frame for it. The pine frame is stained in a combination of stains that gives it a more weathered look. The overall size of this piece is 21.25″ x 12.75″  and would fit equally well in a modern or traditional setting.

    Hi Margot
Found you through the Headway support forums I think, I like what you’ve done with the theme (am still battling to do something I like with mine), and I really love this glass panel. The midnight blue and the ‘windblown’ background are really effective, the overall composition beautiful. I’ve added you to my Google Reader, looking forward to see more of your future designs.

Thanks Katie! Headway is almost too powerful. I keep playing and tweaking and changing. I’m still looking for the right “artistic” look for my blog. But knowing me, I’ll never leave it alone. I am no expert in Headway, but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

BTW, is that the gallery that comes with Headway that you are using on your site? I like the way it looks. I had trouble getting it to work in one of the earlier releases of headway, and haven’t gone back to try it out again.

Hi Margot, thanks for the offer of help with Headway – it is really powerful, which sometimes makes it a bit too much for relatively non-techy people, even with the drag-and-drop functionality – though I’m learning. I do miss the days of my free blogger blog sometimes, it was limiting in what I could do, but at least it was easy…

Yep, it is the gallery that comes with Headway that we’re using. It took me a while to figure it out – I think there was a glitch with it in previous versions of Headway and the forums were full of people tearing their hair out over it. But either someone had a solution, or they fixed it in more recent releases. It’s definitely worth tinkering with. Like yourself, I get absorbed in constantly tweaking things… I think it will be an endless process 🙂

Right now I use a widget called Fidgetr to display my gallery from Flickr. some day I’ll look into the Headway gallery. I had some trouble with the drop and drag feature in the beginning. It’s not the most intuitive. It reminds me of those little plastic puzzles I had as a kid where you would have to slide the little squares around to make the picture. Once I figured out that the size and alignment of each column affected its position I had better results. Even so, I love the flexibility this theme gives me.
