Admitting My Computer Technology Addiction

They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Well, I am here to say I am addicted to my computer and technology in general! It all became very clear to me a few days ago when I found myself working on both my laptop and my netbook at the same time.

Like most additions, you don’t even realize it’s happening. It started years ago with something rather innocuous – email. As someone who never really enjoyed talking on the phone, I immediately embraced email and rarely use the phone anymore. Email was the beginning of the slippery slope. I started thinking (yes my husband would say this is a dangerous thing) why not put my glass work on the internet? So I created a website. Next, why not sell online? I signed up to sell on Etsy and 1000Markets. Hmm… wonder if anyone is actually looking at my sites? Better sign up for Google Analytics.  Probably need a blog too, don’t you think? You are reading it now. Well shoot, have to let people know about the blog somehow. Follow me on Twitter! But most of my friends don’t Twitter – they are still in the dark ages. (That ought to get some of them to comment!) So last but probably not least I have a Facebook profile and fan page.

With each of these additions, there was a learning curve to figure it all out. I have learned that these applications and the software that runs them are never as simple as they claim it will be. The words, “set up in three easy steps” makes me laugh. And even if I get lucky and set up is easy, then what? It’s all the tweaking and getting it to look and work the way I want that becomes the challenge. For instance, I just setup an application on Facebook called NetworkedBlogs. With any luck, this blog will be sent directly to my Fan Page. I am not holding my breath though; just crossing my fingers.

But alas, I am addicted! As soon as I get one thing figured out, I’m off to figure out the next new thing; even when it means working until 2 in the morning. Yes my tennis friends that could explain why some mornings my game really stinks! Perhaps I need an intervention?! Nah! I am having too much fun.
