Cutting Glass – Morton System Tip

When I cut glass for my fused glass pieces I often find myself cutting the same sizes over and over again. I use the Morton System with glass stops to measure and cut glass. It quickly became apparent that it would be handy to have dedicated stops set at certain measurements. For example I use 1/2 inch, 1 inch, and 1.5 inch strips often in my designs. I marked three stops with these measurement and found them to be a great time saver.

Eventually I bought more stops and set them up for my popular mold sizes – 5 inches, 6 inches, etc. In fact, I found this so convenient that I bought a small rack to place the stops on so I could find the size I needed easily. At some point I discovered that a stop set at a particular measurement could also be used in another position for different measurement. For instance, the ¾ inch stop could also be used in the 3 inch position. As you can see by the picture, I have marked off all the possible combinations. This might be a bit over the top for most glass fusers, but having dedicated stops to cut my most often used measurements is a definite time saver.

Happy glass cutting!
