Coral Bowl

Coral BowlI am frantically getting ready for fall shows at the end of the month. I am not sure why I do this, but amidst all the frenzy I decide to try something I’ve never done before. Maybe it is because my creative juices are in overdrive. I have seven days until my first show and I am still thinking of new ideas I want to try!

This is commonly referred to as a coral bowl. I see them all over the internet and in many magazines. So I just had to try it. This is a small test one. I cut strips of glass, “artfully” arranged them, fused them together, and draped them over a bowl mold. When my engineer husband looks at something like this he usually says, “Interesting. What do you do with it?”  You really don’t have to do anything with it. It is beautiful all on its own. But I particularly like to put a candle or tea light in it. The shadows that it casts are beautiful. Someday I’d like to make a larger version of this for my coffee table.

Just wanted to say I understand. I like trying new things and I always seem to want to do it when I’m under the gun for other things. I love you blogs. Did you ever do one on pocket vases? That’s a new thing I’d like to try.

      Karen,

Thanks for for your comment. Always good to know someone is out there reading. I did pocket vases when I first started out using some of my stained glass stock. Even though it is not specifically rated as fusible glass, you can, as you probably know, fuse glass from the same sheet together. I haven’t done any lately though. They didn’t seem to big sellers. But I may have to revisit this.
